Eradicating Poverty Beyond Growth

The REAL Project is pleased to invite you to the launch of its new policy report, developed as a contribution to the United Nations process on building a Roadmap to Eradicating Poverty Beyond Growth under the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, Olivier De Schutter.

For decades, economic growth has been presented as the primary pathway to poverty reduction. Yet despite sustained global growth, poverty remains widespread and deep inequalities persist both within and between countries. At the same time, growth-dependent development models have contributed to escalating ecological pressures and resource depletion.

Drawing on the work of more than forty researchers across Europe, the REAL Project's report presents a comprehensive package of 26 evidence-based policies designed to support poverty eradication beyond growth-centred development strategies. The report proposes differentiated pathways for low- and middle-income countries and high-income countries, organized around three complementary pillars: development, delinking, and degrowth.

Particular attention is given to the role of unequal exchange, international trade and finance structures, and economic sovereignty in shaping global poverty outcomes. The report argues that addressing poverty requires not only stronger domestic social policies, but also reforms to the international economic architecture.
